What players say
NieR: Automata leaves scars. It is a rare masterpiece that uses video game mechanics to break your heart, only to piece it back together through its music. As the final chords of 'Weight of the World' fade out, you realize: it was painful, it was devastating, but it was absolutely beautiful...
First, I love the story for what it is trying to say, and also the soundtrack. This game has one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever created. Then there some downsides to this game. This game's pacing is genuinely awful. That entire 9S section in the middle could have been a flashback sequence. Then there is the boss design. During the bosses you just hit dodge and spam attack pod. The can really be felt during the Eve boss fight. No amount of lewd outfits and fan service could have saved it. I don't think this game is bad. I just think this game get's in its own way.
I tried. Every review for this game was glowing - every review spoke of the immense combat mechanics, an emotional story - the internet promised me a masterpiece. This was the most boring game I've played in years, and the story was just predictable dreck. They say keep playing after ending A, but if you accidentally deviate from a unclear course you get ending G and start over. No thanks, I'm going to do my best to forget this game ever existed - and you've been warned.
I like hard games - chess, pool, Ikaruga, rally sims, Baba is You, Ultrakill, whatever. What I don't like is having to replay a long easy section (with unskippable cutscenes!) to get back to the hard(er) part. That's a disrespectful waste of my time, and that's exactly what this game does if you die to the first boss, 20+ minutes in.
Never seen a game that bad... Sheeeesh... - Camera are your worst ennemy - Graphics are ♥♥♥♥ - Run like ass on boss fight - Lots of mini games that break the immersion Really a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, wayyyyyyy too overhyped.
story is very good, extremely good graphics for its time and has little to no system requirements to play, absolutely peak game
