The Witcher IV: Ciri, Kovir and a 2028 wait
CD Projekt Red has finally put a window on it: The Witcher IV is targeting 2028, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Ciri takes the lead in the first chapter of a new trilogy — here's everything confirmed so far, and why the wait is what it is.

A date, at last — sort of
Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the studio is targeting a 2028 release— a window, not a locked date. “I know it's a bit of a wait,” the studio acknowledged. It rules out the 2026/2027 hopes some fans held, but ends years of “when?” with an actual year on the board.
Ciri takes the medallion
For the first time, the star witcher isn't Geralt. Ciri is the protagonist, picking up after the events of The Witcher 3, and The Witcher IV is the opening game of a brand-new trilogy — a fresh saga rather than a coda to the last one.
A new corner of the Continent: Kovir
The game brings Kovir to the series for the first time — a wealthy northern kingdom that, until now, only existed in Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. Built on Unreal Engine 5, it's CD Projekt Red's first mainline Witcher off their own REDengine.
Not at Gamescom — but the Continent is
Don't expect Witcher IV footage at Gamescom this week. Instead, CD Projekt Red is bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion for the 2015 classic (lined up for 2027), to Opening Night Live. Witcher IV's most recent public showing was a tech demo at Unreal Fest earlier in 2026.
